About this site
This website is "stone soup." The story of stone soup is where one person brings a pot, fills it with water, and drops a couple of stones in it in the center of town. Eventually, all of the villagers come out of the woodwork, contribute what they can to the soup, and everyone is fed.
katrina.telascience.org is a clearinghouse for as much imagery, elevation data, and geographic data that can be obtained for the Katrina-affected areas. There are plenty of sites with imagery, but this site aims to be the one that has everything. Thanks to our friends, we have ample bandwidth, computing power, and storage. Thanks to the network of villagers, we have lots of image processing, staging, and application development expertise. Together, we are making a website that emergency managers, GIS professionals, and ordinary citizens can use to investigate the affected regions.
